If you've seen anything about wearing sunscreen via advertisements, you've probably at some point bought into the lie that sunscreen prevents skin cancer. The benefits of sun go a long way like raising seeds from the soil, producing vital vitamin D and relieving many from depression symptoms. For some reason people have been avoiding the sun as if they were in fact mythological creatures like vampires, but could it be at their own disadvantage?
I always found it disturbing back when sunscreens were greatly marketed as prevention against skin cancer that that is precisely when I started hearing about people getting and dying of this new thing they were calling cancer. What fear blanketed the atmosphere, this villain sun had come to take our lives and so we must rely on man-made chemicals to protect us from this ancient monster we call the sun.
Thankfully researchers have been studying this epidemic in the area of sunscreens and have shared their studies with us. I am also pleased that people of influence have began to speak out about this topic as well. For some reason, people pay attention when a celebrity talks about it. Either way, people are getting the picture and thats great!
‘I cannot put this poison on my skin,’ the 30-year-old said. ‘I do not use anything synthetic.’-Gisele Bundchen
Because the skin absorbs most anything you put on it, I treat it as it if were my second, really large tongue. If I can't safely eat it, I won't be using it as a moisturizer.
Our skin has the ability to protect us from outside contaminants while also absorbing moisture we need to keep our body smooth and flexible.
"According to the Environmental Working Group, there are several suspected dangers associated with Oxybenzone. Despite its sun protective abilities, it has been shown to penetrate the skin and cause photo-sensitivity. As a photocarcinogen, it has demonstrated an increase in the production of harmful free radicals and an ability to attack DNA cells; for this reason, it is believed to be a contributing factor in the recent rise of Melanoma cases with sunscreen users. Some studies have shown it to behave similarly to the hormone estrogen, suggesting that it may cause breast cancer. It has also been linked to contact eczema and allergies."-Truth Kings
"We don't know how long it is stored, and we don't known whether it is important, but I suggest that parents of small children should avoid using sunscreens that contain benzophenone-3, to be on the safe side", says dermatologist Helena Gonzalez.
"Children under the age of two years have not fully developed the enzymes that are believed to break down benzophenone-3. This suggests, in theory, that small children will not be able to get rid of the substance as easily as adults."-Medical news
"The second of the major issues are that sunscreen protection is really a load of crap. It gives people a false sense of security, causing them to stay outside in the sun during high sunbeam hours, for prolonged durations. How many times have you seen people use sunscreen and end up burned anyways? The sunscreen manufacturer claimed the protection would last “for hours,” but it failed to do so, and the person ended up staying out all day at a lake."-Truth Kings
The Swedes as well as other Nordic people seem to have a higher education when it comes to skin care. Not only is benzophenone-3 uncommon in their sunscreens but they also take time to detox in the sauna and in a 20 year study using 3000 women, have shown that sun exposure increaseslifespan! *clapping hands*
"Women with active sun exposure habits were mainly at a lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and noncancer/non-CVD death as compared to those who avoided sun
exposure. As a result of their increased survival, the relative contribution of cancer death increased in these women. Nonsmokers who avoided sun exposure had a life expectancy similar to smokers in the highest sun exposure group, indicating that avoidance of sun exposure is a risk factor for death of a similar magnitude as smoking. Compared to the highest sun exposure group, life expectancy of avoiders of sun exposure was reduced by 0.6-2.1 years."
Ever wonder why indigenous tribes don't use sunscreen and yet sport their beautiful cancer free skin without a worry? We need to start questioning why we do fear driven things more and take a tally of how much media we consume. Commercials don't air for free and there is a reason for that.
I'm in no way making claim that anything you do will give you a longer life as we are not promised tomorrow. What I am saying is you have been given a body that was for the most part grade A-healthy to start off with and miraculous abilities to heal itself. Why wouldn't you choose to steward it the best you can with the rich resources in nutrition and knowledge we have?
Every one out of one person dies, but we (for the most part) don't have to inch our way to the grave in total desperation and pain.
I personally only use coconut oil or olive oil which has the highest SPF value for my sunscreen regimen. You can also add in peppermint EO which not only has high SPF value but cools the skin which is great for those who burn easily. I also use olive and coconut oil as a daily moisturizer. Did you know you can moisturize from the inside out too? Yup! I put tablespoons of it in most of my smoothies too!
